Restaurant Guide
There are many restaurants within ten minutes of The Inn.
This guide is meant to be a description based on our experiences and
observations. Please don't hold us responsible if you disagree with our
opinions, but we would appreciate any comments on a particular restaurant
that you think would more accurately describe it to future guests. Also, if
you find one that is not listed, please let us know about it!
While all restaurants in the area have seafood, those
listed in that category are pretty much seafood only.

Our Top Ten Favorites
Black Trumpet
(449-4700) Located right here in the historical Sandpiper
Inn, with oceanside dining for lunch and dinner. The best quality
fare served in a delightful club-like atmosphere. Creative American cuisine
innovatively prepared and desserts "to die for" all made on premises
Reservations suggested and call ahead seating available.

Whispers
(Spring Lake - 974-9755)
Located around the corner, small pleasant atmosphere, gourmet presentation.
High quality innovative menu where the chef would disdain salting the food.
There are only 50 seats and very popular so reservations are highly
recommended - always in season. Our guests have reported, however, that no
one "whispers".

Algernon's (Manasquan - 528-0808) New on
Main Street . Lovely atmosphere, innovative eclectic menu, beautiful
presentation. Wine collection from NJ winery sold by the bottle. BYOB, $$$,

Clark's Landing (Point Pleasant -
899-1111) Attractive physical environment on Manasquan River with a
magnificent view of the Sunset. Menu ranges from burgers to 2lb lobsters
year 'round and extensive specials (mostly fish). large bar inside and
outside bar in season. Entertainment - hangout of the "beautiful people."

Rod's Irish Tavern
< (Sea Girt - 449-2020)
An area fixture for years. Large square sports bar with surrounding booths
and two other rooms. Burgers to specials and all the basics in-between. Very
popular for lunch as well as dinner so get there early! No reservations. L,
$$, 8-9, C. (See Frankie's) Frankie's (Point Pleasant - 892-6000) The same
owner as Rod's, similar casual decor with large bar area, three dining
areas, oversized drinks and efficient service. Same plentiful menu.

Fratello's (Sea Girt - 974-8833) Green
leather booths surround a square Bar which has unobtrusive television
viewing. There is also a non-smoking back room. The menu is Italian but with
additional variety and a host of specials. Rosemary's comment (and she is an
excellent cook) is that the sauces taste like they were made for you - not
the day before.

Giamano's
(Bradley Beach - 775-4275) Definitely 60's Italian decor - soft lights,
Sinatra music, armed chairs and tablecloths. There is a pleasant "holding"
bar The food is excellent, and the atmosphere pleasant, but the service is
sometimes spotty. Limited outside dining in season Rosemary loves it!
L, $$$, 8-9, SC
Matisse (Belmar - 681-7680) Great
location on boardwalk with spectacular ocean views. Continental menu with
great food and nice presentation. Service sometimes spotty.

Mahogany Grill (Manasquan - 292-1300)
Gourmet American, great presentation, consistently excellent food from
sumptuous appetizers to beautiful desserts to "die" for. Upscale New York
atmosphere, sometimes noisy, but very efficient service.

Shipwreck (Brielle - 292-9380) Large
bar, comfortable paneled dining room, innovative American menu, really great
meal and great service each time we were there.

Seafood
Klein's (Avon - 681-1177) Set on a concrete floor facing the river with portable heaters, fans and plastic table and chairs - kind of like a picnic. Most guests who have been there are enthusiastic. If you're the paper plate type - enjoy their excellent seafood. We're not and I guess there are others like us so they opened an adjacent restaurant with real plates. Always a line so be prepared!
BYOB, $$, 8, C
Red's Lobster Pot (Point Pleasant - 295-6622) This is a favorite of those in the know with twelve tables and on the bay. Open year 'round. Be sure to go early (especially on weekends and in season) because they do not take reservations.
BYOB, $$-$$$, 9, C
Spike's (Point Pleasant - 295-9400) On the water with fish market attached. Spartan atmosphere (plain wooden tables but no paper plates) seats approximately fifty patrons. It is strictly seafood fare and the service is pleasant and the food simply prepared. Very popular in season but open year 'round.
BYOB, $, 7, C
Whispers (Spring Lake - 974-9755) This is very high gourmet where to salt the food would offend the chef...The menu exudes presentation and most comments are indeed raves. 4 stars. There are only 50 seats so reservations are highly recommended - always in season. Guests have reported, however, that no one "whispers".
